Isabel M. Martínez spent her formative years in Santiago de Chile and holds a BFA from UniversidadCatólica de Chile. In pursue of a graduate degree she ventured into Canada and earned an MFA fromthe University of Guelph.
As an artist, she is interested in the phenomenological aspects of human experience. Perception is arecurring theme within her practice, and has become a foundation for her to explore the possibilities andlimitations of photography. She approaches the medium as a means of visual transcription for ideas reflectingon the notions of time, space, simultaneity, and duration. In doing so, experimentation and process havecome to the forefront of much of her work. Non-linear narratives, superpositions and juxtapositions areoften employed in the creation of her images; spatio-temporal relations are predominant subjects.
She has exhibited in Chile, England, the U.S., and Canada. Her work has been included in CONTACTPhotography Festival (Toronto), Magenta’s Flash Forward, FotoAmérica Bienal de Fotografía (Chile), andfeatured on Centro Virtual de la Fotografía Chilena, Día Nacional de la Cultura 2011 (Chile), Bank on Art,Frameworks, Ojo Zurdo, Chilenización de la Fotografía, and Wegway Magazine among others. Isabel’sphotographs are present in various public and private collections. She lives and works in Toronto
